Region

The combination of sand and gravel soils found in this area of southern Médoc are ideal to support both Cabernet Sauvignon and a high proportion of Merlot. The Margaux appellation always produces wines with a fragrant bouquet, supple texture and feminine softness.

Producer

Named after British Major-General Palmer, who established the property after the Napoleanic wars, Chateau Palmer makes one of the great wines of the Margaux commune. Chateau Palmer`s estate consists of 52 hectares of vines, which are planted on gravely rises several metres thick in the communes of Margaux and Cantenac. This `terroir` is ideal to support both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a small amount of Petit Verdot. The result are wines of great finesse, elegance and concentration.

Tasting Notes

Alter Ego is the second wine of 3eme Cru Classe, Chateau Palmer. The 2014 vintage started off very wet but was saved by an Indian summer and the resultant quality is very good. The 2014 Alter Ego de Palmer has the higest ever percentage of Petit Verdot in the blend, this gives the wine its intense purple hue and contributes to the concentrated bramble fruit nose. The palate is very supple with notes of cassis and blackberry fruit, silky tannins and an earthy, leafy note on the finish.

Food

Serve with roasted red meats or mature cheees.
