Region

The mountainous region of Molise lies to the south of the central region on the Adriatic coast. One of Italy`s smallest wine regions, here the vines are grown close to the coast where the hot summer temperatures are moderated by cooling sea breezes. Several grape varieties are grown in this region, including Aglianico, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Falanghina, Montepulciano and a native grape variety, Tintilia.

Producer

Cantine Volpi`s wine-making premises are located in Viguzzolo, just outside the Piedmontese town of Tortona. Giuliano Noè has been responsible for the technical side for many years, always aiming at further improvement in the quality. When the wines have completed their initial period of development, they change surrounding for their subsequent maturation and ageing. The cellars where they complete their maturation are located in the out-skirts of Tortona, where an extensive variety of ageing barrels, stainless steel, large Slavonian oak casks and small French oak barriques are used.

Tasting Notes

The Volpi winery in Northern Italy has built an excellent reputation for its range of Organic wines. A deep ruby colour with aromas of black cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate, coffee and spicy hints of pepper on the nose. It is full bodied yet amazingly smooth and generous with juicy, mouth filling flavours of black fruit, coffee, tar and pepper. The tannins are supple and smooth with a mineral rich palate.

Food

Best when served with meats, game and strong cheeses.
