Sonberk, Czech Republic

Sonberk Wine

Winemaking in the Czech Republic can be traced back to Roman times as archaeological excavations have unearthed viticulture and winemaking artifacts.

There are two wine growing regions defined in Czech law; Moravia and Bohemia. Movaria is responsible for 96% of all production.

Sonberk was established in 2003 but evidence of winemaking in the area goes back to the 13th century, when the south exposed sloping location was originally called `Sonnberg`. Nowadays the Sonberk vineyard is 45 hectares with an extraprdinary view of the Palava Hill. Sustainable viticulture is practiced in the growing of Palava, Riesling, Traminer and Sauvignon.
